data.org joins as a member of the Digital Public Goods Alliance

The amount of data being produced is greater than ever before. Understanding and unlocking this immense amount of data can play a critical role in improving the lives of people all around the world.

This underscores why the Digital Public Goods Alliance is excited to announce that data.org will be joining as a member to help promote digital public goods for a more equitable world. data.org helps enable the true potential of data science – believing that doing so can help tackle society’s greatest challenges, particularly for building inclusive societies, climate change adaptation, and pandemic response.

We share a vision and belief in the power of convening global stakeholders across philanthropy, private sector technology, government agencies, academia, and social impact to deliver on the goal of closing the data gap and creating a more equitable world. Below is a snapshot of their work related to digital public goods that will help contribute significantly to advancing open source solutions and be mapped in the DPG Roadmap

data.org supports the investment and scaling of projects that can become digital public goods. Epiverse, an initiative of data.org, designs and builds open software tools for epidemic preparedness and response. By investing directly in academic institutions and government agencies, this work will help develop tools that can become digital public goods and contribute to epidemic analysis and preparedness, which can inform policymakers and technologists.

data.org also spearheads complementary work that can help increase the impact of digital public goods for organisations and governments developing and deploying them. The Data Maturity Self Assessment and Data Resource Library are both tools available to help leverage data to make greater social impact. Their self-assessment tool can be used to better understand their current capacity and use of data while also helping to identify goals for advancements. The library is a curation of high-quality open content available to better leverage data science.

We look forward to working with data.org as they help to shape the impact that data science makes in digital transformation. To read more about data.org’s membership and its commitment to advancing digital public goods, read more here.
