Mind the Open Source Gap

Implementation

Mind the Open Source Gap, hosted by UN-OICT and UN-OSET, brings together UN staff quarterly for discussions on the opportunities and challenges of OSS, with the goal of empowering the UN to fulfil its mandate. These sessions facilitate the exchange of best practices, the creation of collaboration networks, and the generation of concrete recommendations. The sessions are very successful with over 600 registrations each quarter.

Reboot the Earth

Planning

"Reboot the Earth" is a global hackathon initiative organized by UN-OICT, FAO, UN Youth Office, DPGA and Salesforce. It aims to bring together young innovators, developers, and coders from around the world to collaborate on solutions to address some of the most pressing challenges related to climate change.  The hackathon encourages participants to develop innovative technological solutions and applications that can contribute to climate action, environmental sustainability, and the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Reboot the Earth events typically involve workshops, mentorship sessions, and a hackathon where teams work together to create prototypes or solutions within a limited timeframe. The initiative emphasizes the power of technology and youth engagement in finding solutions to global challenges.

Co-Chairing the DTN Open Source Community of Practice

Planning

UN-OICT, together with UNFPA, is co-chairing the Open Source Solutions Community of Practice of the CEB-DTN where all UN agencies are represented. The community of Practice aims at coordinating and advancing the adoption of Open Source at the UN System level.
