Enabling DPGs via International Creative Commons Licenses and Public Domain Tool

Implementation

CC provides and stewards the [CC licenses](https://creativecommons.org/about/cclicenses/) and [public domain (PD) tools](https://creativecommons.org/share-your-work/public-domain/) that give every person and organization in the world a free, simple, and standardized way to grant copyright permissions for creative and academic works; ensure proper attribution; and enable others to copy, distribute, and make use of those works. CC legal tools are digital public infrastructure that make the legal and better sharing of DPGs possible. When the world uses CC legal tools to share their knowledge, everyone has access to DPGs including: open educational resources, open access research, open data and AI algorithms and models.

Open Up Knowledge and Culture to Help Solve the World’s Most Pressing Problems

Implementation

Creative Commons pursues a commons of knowledge and culture that is inclusive, just, and which inspires reciprocity — a commons that serves the public interest. To that end, we must transition from promoting more sharing to fostering better sharing. In [our strategy](https://drive.google.com/file/d/10rQDv5Hzuss38oi1ovGuoxHagmFzqn_f/view), we identify the work we will undertake to help support open communities and build an open ecosystem that promotes better sharing of knowledge and culture, i.e. sharing that is contextual, ethical, inclusive, sustainable, purposeful and prosocial. We do not want to promote sharing for the sake of sharing. We want to promote sharing that has a positive impact on people and their communities. In service of this work, CC helps overcome legal obstacles to the sharing of knowledge and creativity to address the world’s most pressing challenges.  All of the knowledge and culture we help open are DPGs, and our programs help governments, organizations and indi

Commons Training and Consulting

Implementation

Creative Commons offers the public a variety of training, including regular [CC Certificate](https://certificates.creativecommons.org/) courses (in-depth courses for people interested in becoming experts in creating and engaging with openly licensed works), office hours with our legal team, as well as customized consulting and facilitation. Creative Commons believes that if we are to solve our shared global challenges, the knowledge and culture about these challenges must be open. We help governments and institutions develop and implement open policies, work toward greater open practices, build capacity in open licensing, and connect with the open advocates to promote the creation and sharing of DPGs, open governance, open science, open education, open access and open culture. CC has provided consulting, facilitation, training and support to governments, education institutions, corporations, museums, foundations, libraries, NGOs and INGOs. We welcome collaboration with any institution
