Open sourcing high-impact Singapore government products and deploying as DPG’s
The Government of Singapore has developed a modular set of impactful open-source products to meet the needs of public servants and citizens, with significant potential to address urgent global development challenges. The goal is to make Singapore’s public sector technology discoverable and accessible globally as digital public goods (DPGs). In 2024 and beyond, Singapore plans to deploy additional open-source products as DPGs to tackle critical needs in areas like data collection (FormSG), information accessibility (Isomer, GoGovSG), and trustworthy communication (Isomer, Postman). Previously, Singapore collaborated with UNDP’s Global Centre for Technology, Innovation, and Sustainable Development to make solutions such as Oobee (an automated accessibility testing tool) and OpenAttestation (secure education data-sharing) available as DPGs. By sharing these tools, Singapore aims to enhance global digital development efforts

This activity aims to equip governments with the knowledge and tools necessary for digital transformation and for a more efficient and citizen-friendly government. By sharing learnings from Singapore’s experience building technology for public good and incorporating DPI best practices we hope to enable the next generation of tech-enabled governments. These include learnings on how to create bureaucratic space for digital transformation, build capacity for the development of digital public goods, and create a suite of minimalist, reusable products by starting from simple, well-defined problems. Upcoming exchanges and sessions involve other Southeast Asian countries as well as broader global panel discussions.

Singapore has previously demonstrated considerable success in deploying products such as FormSG in countries such as Sri Lanka. In 2024 and beyond, we are looking to replicate similar success and help to address urgent development needs by sharing and deploying successful solutions from Singapore with countries such as Malaysia, Bangladesh, and Indonesia, amongst others. The planned deployment of these open source solutions as DPGs promises to be a huge enabler for digital transformation in these countries and exemplifies what a modern technology enabled government can look like
