Identify ADB digital products for DPG Registry & potential DPGs
The activity will assess both existing and underdevelopment/planned ADB digital products to determine their suitability for classification as Digital Public Goods (DPGs). This involves identifying active digital products and evaluating their compliance with the DPG Standard, including open licenses, adherence to open standards, and alignment with sustainable development goals. Additionally, the process includes consulting relevant stakeholders and documenting findings to recommend steps for developing these products into DPGs to maximize their impact on sustainable development. Suitable products will be submitted to the DPG registry for recognition

Connected members:
We intend to consult both the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to learn from their successful identification activities related to DPGs, including the IDB’s efforts which led to their website: https://code.iadb.org.
Connected DPGs:
Develop an ADB internal DPG policy
To develop an ADB internal policy, the process begins with thorough research and benchmarking of global DPG frameworks and best practices from other development institutions. This is followed by stakeholder consultations, engaging with member countries, the private sector, civil society, and internal departments to assess needs and opportunities. Based on these insights, policy guidelines are formulated, establishing criteria, governance standards, and guidelines for DPG selection, data privacy, and cybersecurity (amongst others elements to be included in the DPG policy). Monitoring and creation of evaluation framework will then be created to assess the impact, scalability, and sustainability of the DPGs. Finally, international collaboration is sought by partnering with global DPG networks and participating in knowledge-sharing forums.

We intend to consult the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to learn how they successfully developed policies to advance the use and development of DPGs.
Connected DPGs:
Organize DPG events for institutions involved inADB projects
These events will aim to foster collaboration, share best practices, and enhance the understanding of DPGs among participating institutions. Additionally, these should provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities, ensuring that all involved institutions are well-informed and engaged about DPGs.

Advocating for DPGs, especially in the context of climate change in Asia
This activity focuses on promoting the development and use of Digital Public Goods (DPGs) to address climate change challenges in Asia. It involves raising awareness among ADB staff and potentially beyond, about the benefits and potential of DPGs, such as their accessibility, cost-effectiveness, and capacity to drive innovation. By investing in and promoting initiatives that link DPGs to climate action, this activity aims to highlight their potential role in both mitigating and adapting to the impacts of climate change. This activity aligns with ADB’s development goals because it supports ADB’s climate resilience goals by using DPGs to provide real-time data and tools for managing climate risks and implementing sustainable practices.

We intend to consult Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) to seek guidance for our DPG advocacy for climate change in Asia.
Connected DPGs:
ADB would explore the specific available DPGs related to climate change including climate change-related open data sets and catastrophe model
Explore making ADB’s AI framework and associated tools as DPGs
This activity involves making ADB’s AI framework and associated tools openly accessible and freely available to the public, adhering to principles of open standards, open data, and open source. The aim is to enhance transparency, foster collaboration, and drive innovation across various sectors by leveraging ADB’s AI capabilities.

Connected members:
We intend to explore collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank, to compare notes on how theirs and ADB’s approach towards turning an AI framework and associated tools as DPG can be of value to stakeholders.
