Bebbo promotes SDG 2, 3, 4 and 5. In particular, SDG indicator 2.2.1 (prevalence of childhood stunting), SDG indicator 2.2.2 (prevalence of childhood malnutrition (wasting or overweight)), SDG indicator 3.b.1 (proportion of the target population covered by all vaccines included in their national programme) and SDG indicator 4.2.1 (proportion of children aged 24–59 months (2-5 years) who are developmentally on track in health, learning and psychosocial well-being, by sex). These indicators are supported by providing parents with a rich library of well-researched articles and videos covering various domains of child health. The content is tailored and filtered based on the child's profile, offering personalized recommendations. It covers health and vaccination, early learning protection and safety, nutrition and breastfeeding, and mental health and well-being of parents. The app also includes interactive tools to monitor and support the child's development, optimal growth, and health visits and immunization schedules. By providing accessible information and tools, Bebbo promotes the goal of ensuring a healthy child. In addition, Bebbo has been recognized as a gender transformative initiative by UNICEF. It provides content for fathers and encourages their active involvement in the upbringing of the child. The app promotes increased engagement of both parents in a gender transformative way, supporting the goal of achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls and hence supports SDG Indicator 5.4.1 (proportion of time spent on unpaid domestic and care work, by sex, age and location).
Google Firebase, Facebook SDK
The current application is configured to use Google Firebase (and some Facebook SDK APIs) to collect and analyse anonymized usage analytics and for push notifications. These are added to support M&E functions of UNICEF. However, this integration is not the core functionality of the application. The app works even without this integration. If required, the app can be easily configured to use any open-source tool (such as: Supabase) for this functionality. The documentation on GitHub provides information on how to remove the references to Firebase from the code (https://github.com/UNICEFECAR/parenting-app-bebbo-mobile/wiki/Tracking-usage).

PII data is collected but NOT stored and NOT distributed.
The user data is only stored on users' personal devices and is not transferred to the app servers. Drupal-based Headless architecture of Bebbo offers enhanced security compared to traditional architectures. It separates the front-end presentation layer from the backend services, reducing the attack surface. The absence of a visible frontend reduces the avenues available for attackers to target and exploit potential vulnerabilities. In addition, security patches and updates can be applied to the backend services without impacting the frontend, ensuring prompt mitigation of vulnerabilities and reducing the exposure window to potential attacks. The app adheres to secure coding practices, including input validation, output encoding, and protection against common vulnerabilities (e.g., SQL injection, cross-site scripting).
Content is collected stored and distributed.
The content in sections such as "Parenting Tips" and "Suggested Reads" are identified from an overall parenting content pool curated by UNICEF from different sources, including content contributed by individual governments. As an open-source software, anyone implementing the Bebbo parenting app is free to create their own content, leverage open-source content available on the internet, or seek licensing agreements from individual content providers.
