DHIS2 is the world's largest Health Management Information System platform, and is currently in use in more than 80 low- and middle-income countries, 74 are deployed at national scale. DHIS2 is also used by national health authorities and international health organizations (such as WHO, the CDC, PEPFAR, The Global Fund, Gavi) for management of specific health programs, such as HIV, TB, Malaria, immunization, and disease surveillance. The large-scale adoption of DHIS2 has enabled countries to leverage it to rapidly respond to emerging crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic. New DHIS2 tools for Climate & Health facilitate incorporation of climate, weather, and environmental data into DHIS2 to support analysis, modeling, and forecasting of climate-sensitive health risks and help improve the climate resilience of national health systems. DHIS2 has also developed a module for last-mile logistics intended for use at the health facility level and integrated with a central eLMIS or ERP. The features include report and transaction-based stock management, equipment management, and temperature monitoring. In addition to health, DHIS2 is also now being deployed as an Education Management Information System (EMIS) in several countries, which facilitates more effective triangulation of data between health and education programs (for example, vaccination campaigns targeting school-aged children), as well as supporting purely education-related goals.
The platform can be optionally configured to use Google Analytics, Google Maps, Bing Maps, and Google Earth Engine for additional capabilities, but they are not mandatory dependencies.

DHIS2 software is provided with tools and guidelines to mitigate security and privacy risks. Proper adherence to these is the responsibility of each individual organization that implements the DHIS2 software, since each instance of the software is locally owned and maintained, and the DHIS2 core team does not have access to individual country databases. To the extent that the University of Oslo is involved in implementation of the software in-country -- either directly or via our HISP network -- we strive to adhere to best practices for data security and privacy, in accordance with local laws. DHIS2 features configurable access control levels that restrict access to specific kinds of information to particular user roles, groups, and organization units. Additionally, metadata can be defined as either public or private. The DHIS2 database itself can be encrypted. Interactions between users / contributors on this project are managed through an online forum, the DHIS2 Community of Practice: https://community.dhis2.org. You can find out code of conduct and moderation information here: https://community.dhis2.org/about. The target audience for this community is skilled users of the DHIS2 software (expected age 20+), and discussion is limited to topics relating to software implementation and use. The age limit for participation on the forum is set at 13 or older. At this point, we have no reason to believe that any underage users are participating in our forum. In regards to the DHIS2 software itself, access controls are established by the countries or organizations implementing the software, which is targeted at professional users. The DHIS2 discussion forum is governed by clearly stated community guidelines: https://community.dhis2.org/faq and is actively moderated by members of the DHIS2 core team, who can flag and remove content or comments as needed.
