New Report Highlights Role of Digital Public Goods for Climate Action

Data Privacy Brasil has released a new report examining the role digital public goods (DPGs) and digital public infrastructure (DPI) could play in addressing and adapting to climate change. This report aligns with the Digital Public Goods Alliance’s (DPGA) strategic goal to ensure that, by 2028, sustainably maintained DPGs empower diverse stakeholders to take effective, long-term action against climate challenges.

The report explores how digital public goods in Brazil could help combat climate change, demonstrating how DPGs can foster greater transparency, innovation, and collaboration to advance national and international climate goals more effectively. Focusing on Brazil’s role as a G20 leader and upcoming host of COP30, the report offers valuable insights and strategies that other countries can adapt and build upon.

Several DPGs including CKAN, MOSIP, Met Norway and Hand-in-hand Geospatial Platform are included in the report. It also brings attention to prominent Brazilian initiatives, such as Cadastro Ambiental Rural (CAR), which, if it were to become a digital public good, could help advance public interest, transparency, and improve the effectiveness of environmental efforts. The report also emphasises the broader impact of DPGs and DPI in contributing to the UN’s Global Digital Compact and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. Read the report.
