The Dominican Republic Joins the Digital Public Goods Alliance

The Digital Public Goods Alliance is thrilled to welcome the Government of the Dominican Republic, which will be joining as the newest member of the DPGA via the Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Development.

“Open and free DPGs enable collaboration and the development of customized solutions, thus strengthening the government’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable digital development,” said Armando Manzueta, Director of Information and Communication Technology (DTIC), Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Development, Dominican Republic.

Recognizing the potential of digital public goods to improve efficiency and transparency in government service delivery and bridge the digital divide seen globally, the Dominican Republic will focus on creating open data structures that can help enhance their ability to respond to the needs of residents through their membership. This includes designing and developing a solid and coherent data structure that allows for the efficient organization and classification of information related to planning and development.

The Dominican Republic also plans to develop a digital public goods-based platform for the economy, planning, and development sector for data infrastructure. The project will focus on creating a data exchange hub for social, economic, geospatial, and demographic data generated by the ministry and dependent agencies, and will help improve efficiency, transparency, and evidence-based decision and policy-making across government for the advancement of national development and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Doing so will also facilitate centralized access to interoperable data while fostering great opportunities for public and civic innovation.

As not only a member of the DPGA but 50-in-5 as well, the Dominican Republic will participate in convenings where they can share insights on their larger experiences with implementing digital public infrastructure. This will allow for other countries to learn from their experiences and enhance the exchange of best practices.
