UN Office of Information and Communications Technology joins the DPGA

Today, the United Nations Office of Information and Communication Technology (OICT) became the latest member of the DPGA.

OICT works with digital public goods through their Open Source Software for Sustainable Development Goals (OSS4SDG) initiative, which fosters collaboration to tackle SDG challenges by using open source software, and the Unite Ideas Platform, a platform that draws upon the skills, creativity, and intellectual property of over 30,000 engaged global citizens and organisations to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems – including by utilising DPGs. Since its launch, more than 1,000 ideas were submitted from which over 200 open source solutions were developed. Looking ahead, the office plans to coordinate with the DPGA to provide opportunities to advance and create DPGs within the platform.

“We are very honored to become the newest member of the DPGA, as we strongly believe that initiatives like these, with such prominent stakeholders, are key to fostering collaboration and opening new opportunities to promote DPGs. This is a unique opportunity to work together as a network devoted to empowering open source solutions that can help humanity achieve the SDGs”.

Bernardo Mariano Junior, Chief Information Technology Officer, Assistant Secretary-General, OICT
